Common Mistakes in EOS Benefit Calculation

Published: July 2026 | 6 min read

Many employees and employers make mistakes when calculating End of Service Benefit. Here are the most common errors and how to avoid them.

Mistake 1: Using Total Salary Instead of Basic Salary

Using the total salary (including allowances) instead of the basic salary. The basic salary is what should be used for EOS calculation.

✅ Correct: Use only the monthly basic salary.
❌ Wrong: Using total salary including allowances.

Mistake 2: Ignoring Partial Years

Some employers ignore partial years of service. For example, 6 years and 8 months should be calculated as 6.67 years.

Mistake 3: Confusing Entitlement Cases

Many employees don't realize that the termination reason significantly affects the benefit amount. Resignation after 3 years gives one-third, while employer termination gives full benefit.

Mistake 4: Signing Final Settlement Without Verification

Never sign a final settlement document without verifying the calculated amount. Once signed, you forfeit the right to claim additional amounts.
