Are Teachers Entitled to EOS Benefit?
Yes, private sector teachers are entitled to EOS benefit under the same conditions as any other private sector employee in Saudi Arabia. Private schools, institutes, and language centers are classified as private establishments subject to Saudi Labor Law.
How is Basic Salary Calculated for Teachers?
The teacher's basic salary is as documented in the employment contract. In some educational institutions, the basic salary and housing allowance are listed separately, while in others they are combined. In both cases:
- If housing allowance is part of basic salary: EOS benefit is calculated on the total documented amount.
- If housing allowance is separate: EOS benefit is calculated on basic salary only, unless internal regulations state otherwise.
Calculation Method
First 5 years: Basic salary × years of service (max 5) × 0.5
After 5 years: Basic salary × years exceeding 5
Total: First 5 years result + Post-5 years result
Example:
Teacher with basic salary SAR 8,000 + housing allowance SAR 2,000 (total SAR 10,000), 7 years of service:
- First 5 years: 10,000 × 5 × 0.5 = 25,000 SAR
- Next 2 years: 10,000 × 2 = 20,000 SAR
- Total: 45,000 SAR
Teacher Resignation
If the teacher resigns, Article 85 deductions apply:
- Less than 2 years: No EOS benefit
- 2 to less than 5 years: One-third (1/3) of benefit
- 5 to less than 10 years: Two-thirds (2/3) of benefit
- 10 years or more: Full benefit
